I conjecture that there will be a fair amount of romance books out there that could enter the list My theory is that there are certain genres that do not intrinsically usually involve much critical thinking ie. young adult, religion, comics, most series and will inherently bias the reviews towards more positive ones. The populist reader reads simply for an emotional high and is extremely unlikely to criticize the intellectual value of a book. While critical thinkers generally won't touch that kind of literature. Meanwhile if a casual reader one who reads simply for distraction has to read a somewhat more literary novel ie.

classics they will usually trash it and say it is boring, hence the low ratings of classics or anything remotely intellectual which has been forced on the general populace usually because of school. Anybody willing to read an entire collection or a series is probably already seriously biased towards loving the author of that collection, hence the unbelievably high ratings in that category. Poetry seems to have unbelievably high ratings as well, and I haven't decided if that is because it is inherently of higher quality or if the readers or writers are of an extra special breed. I'd essentially agree with all of the above, with one qualification: Virtually all of the poetry collections that we've so far found to fit the criteria for this list are collections of poetry not originally written in English.

With the exception of Shakespeare's two ominbus editions of which the First Folio only covers the plays, and not all of those that are contained in modern "complete works" editions, at that , I've yet to find an English speaking poet whose poetry has been rated with an average of 4. GR has a remarkably international constituency, but I'd wager nonetheless that most of its membership are native English speakers. At any rate, I doubt that those poetry collections that made the list are as well-known and widely-taught in countries other than those of their provenance as poetry by, say, Keats, Byron or Whitman are in the UK and the U.
